Keyword Search is Key!
Does it matter if you own a hundred keyword rich domains if the keywords in those domains aren’t really searched for that much? It depends on why you bought them I guess. But, let’s say you own a business that specializes in handmade barbie doll clothes. Which of the following domains would you buy if you could could only choose one?
HandmadeBarbieDollClothes.com, BarbieDollClothes.com or BarbieDollClothing.com
When to buy the “-”
People will debate the subject of buying a domain without a “-” opposed to buying a domain with a “-” all day long. I say why debate … just buy both! It’s not the “-” that gets the search results. Everyone in this business is aware of all the factors that go into where you pop up on search results. I would bet that content and links trump the domain name.
The Frozen Hippo
Let’s say you recently opened an ice cream shop in Hutto, Texas and decided to name it The Frozen Hippo because it’s cute and everyone in Hutto worships the hippo. Then you went and bought www.TheFozenHippo.com and put up your business website.
Brad & Angie have just moved to Hutto from Boise. They love ice cream but don’t have a clue if there are any ice cream places in Hutto. So Angie tells Brad to hop on Google. Being that Brad knows nothing about Hutto, which do you think he is most likely to Google?
